We have been exploring ways to dismantle the New Jim Crow age of mass incarceration. At this gathering, we will discuss a parallel issue: The Episcopal church’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade.
We’ll start the discussion by watching “The Diocese of New York Examines Slavery: Talking About Reparations, Repair and Reconciliation,” a 30 minute DVD created by the Diocese of New York’s Reparations Committee, with speakers including our own Nell Gibson and Cynthia R. Copeland. The DVD was initially shown at St. Mark’s in 2011.
Come examine the hidden history of our church and ourselves as we challenge the dominant narrative of American and global history.
