Dear Family of St. Mark’s,

All of you were in my thoughts and prayers last Sunday, 13 Aug 2017, while I was away.  I remain heavy hearted and distraught by the horrific acts of violence that took place in Charlottesville this weekend. Indeed, it is not something new, but an all too familiar and shameful scene that reflects on not only the individuals who spoke violent words and engaged in acts of hate and death, but on all of us as a people, culture and nation; as it does, every day, in every neighborhood, in every community, and in every city when and where acts of hate, violence and discrimination occur against another person or a people.

Let us “repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf” (adapted from EOW1, pg 56).

All of us are needed to change the world in which we live for the good: to heal and strengthen relationships with one another, and care for this earth, this planet entrusted to us by God. It is my prayer, with eyes wide open, that we will as a community continue to discern how God is calling us today to live fully into our relationship with God and each other, through love.

Faithfully,
Anne
