Redemption Center Open & Operating
The Redemption Center is presently operating our transitional housing program, despite COVID 19. We presently have two people from prison residing there and one expected to arrive from Woodbourne Correctional Facility this month, we are just waiting for his parole officer to approve his residency here. One of our participants presently here served 17 years, and the other one 12. We had encountered some complications as Department of Social Services has not been opened so we have to wait for their supplemental rental income, be that as it may, we have been fortunate enough to be able to supply them with food and shelter. We have mask and gloves for them, and we will be purchasing a temperature thermometer to check temperatures daily. We had a plumbing issue that has been resolved thanks to St. Mark’s Church, and we are slowly reaching capacity. As we progress we will update you monthly.
We have been fortunate to be able to provide shelter for men being released from prison in this critical and crucial time thanks to St. Mark’s Church. The division of parole can no longer refer people being released from prison to the NYC Shelter System, and if an individual does not have an address to go to they will not be allowed to leave despite the fact that they have completed their sentence and have a release date. We are most fortunate to be a conduit for these men release. Again thank you St. Mark’s.
