Welcome the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Jung-Chul Lee, our new Associate Rector!
I am pleased to announce that The Rev. Dr.Nathaniel Jung-Chul Lee will be joining St. Mark’s part-time as Associate Rector, on August 15, 2021. In addition to parish ministries, Nate will focus his attention on reaching beyond our church to neighboring communities as we seek truth, reconciliation and repair as a result of racial injustice and systemic oppression of God’s people. Nate will serve with us as we “Act, Learn & Pray,” inviting all who wish to follow, and celebrating the breath of God through worship, music, dance and poetry.
Nate is a priest with fifteen years of ministry experience in diverse contexts across the country. Working with people of all ages from a variety of demographic backgrounds, Nate is especially passionate about helping foster conversations between churches and their surrounding communities, and breaking down the walls between them.
Nate has also pursued this work in a variety of academic contexts. During Divinity School at Duke University, Nate worked closely with Professor Stanley Hauerwas on two books, the first a critique American exceptionalism, especially as exemplified in its militarism; and the second, a exploration of how Christian identity is translated into diverse cultural contexts. His recently completed Ph.D. Dissertation --"Toward a Creole Christ: A Theology of Language & Christian Hybridity"--utilizes the identity of Christ as Divine Word for a constructive response to questions of racial justice and reconciliation.
Welcome Nate!
